How to Become a Civil Judge in India.

Becoming a civil judge in India is one of the respected career options. It is a position of responsibility and pride. The effectiveness of the judicial system depends entirely on the functioning of judges. A judge is a person who is responsible for making critical decisions in court.

 Eligibility criteria

  • candidates must have completed a law course such as LLB degree or BA LLB offered for 3 years or 5 years respectively.
  •  candidates after completing their post-graduation in LLM are also eligible to apply for the post of civil judge.
  •  candidates need to qualify for the judicial service examinations which includes the prelims, mains and interview round for the final selection.
  •  Candidates who are already working in the judiciary system of India for more than five years are also eligible to apply for the post of civil judge.

Qualification

Qualification After 10th:

To become a judge first of all you will have to be a graduate in law. For appearing in the CLAT exam you must have completed 10th, students with maximum 50% of marks. However, a relaxation of 50% was given to the SC/ST/OBC and physically handicapped candidates.

Qualification After 12th:

Different courses are available to become a civil judge after completing your class 12th. To pursue undergraduate courses like BA LLB & LLB, you must have completed your class 12th from a recognised board with a minimum 50% of marks.

The admissions to these courses are provided based on marks scored in the entrance exams.

Qualifications After Graduate:

 You must hold a bachelor’s degree in law for a recognised university. Your minimum age should be 21 years and maximum must be below 35 years to apply for different state – level judiciary exams. If you are working as an advocate for more than seven years, you are eligible to apply for the civil judge post.

You must be a citizen of India or such a person of other nationality as declared eligible by the government of India.

Judge Age limit:

 The minimum age to apply for the civil judge post is 21 years, while the maximum age limit to apply Is 35 years.
