Environment Studies in India:
In India, there is no central body developed for environmental education. The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) give general direction to states and Union Territories on ecological education through the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) and the National Curriculum Framework for Higher Education (NCF-HE). The NCF-SE suggests that ecological training must be included in the school educational program at all degree level courses and diploma level courses. Conversely, the NCF-HE suggests that, in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, EVS is only offered as an optional subject.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issues curricular rules to schools associated with it, including ecological study as an obligatory subject at the secondary level.
